Get a Grip Screenprinting Workshop: Fri 12th Oct 5pm – 7pm, Sat 13th Oct 2pm – 4pm
These two-hour workshops, run from Get a Grip’s Custard Factory studio, give you an informal introduction to their manual water-based screen printing techniques.
You can attend one of the exclusive workshops for just £25 which includes guidance, materials and a 100% organic t-shirt to take home. Using the artwork of this year’s official BZF illustrator, Ben Javens, you’ll put together a multi-coloured design to print onto a t-shirt.
No experience is required but please remember to wear something that you don’t mind getting ink on!

Karoline Rerrie
I’m an illustrator who creates images by hand using drawing, painting, screenprinting and Japanese Gocco printing. I design, make and sell a range of multiples including greetings cards, artists’ books and mini-prints. I also collaborate with other illustrators to produce limited edition fanzines and colouring books which combine screen printing with litho printing. I co-ordinate the publication of the Girls Who Draw series of postcard books which feature my work and that of other women illustrators. I’m currently working on the fourth book which is due out in September.

Ive just started a small publishing group called VRSO press, we are about to release a bunch of new zones as well as prints and accompanying items.

Naniiebim is a small press artist creating a number of self published books and mini comics, including the Mephistos series, and short comics such as Orange, Shika shika, Jellyfish Prince and a number of sketchbooks.
Zarina Liew
I’m a small press self publisher based in London, freelance fashion illustrator by trade but also create my own zines and comics. I’d like to see if I can book one table for myself and my small-press partner in crime Van Nim from Capes & Drapes to share. We’ve both been selling our comics in various London-based events such as Comica Comiket, Alternative Press and other comic cons but we’re looking to try out events outside of London.
Greg McLeod of The Brothers McLeod
The Brothers McLeod are Illustrator-animator Greg and screenwriter Myles. They are known for their animations created for TV, short film, games and the web. They have developed, written and directed series for BBC including Pedro and Frankensheep, Sticks, Bitesize History of Maths and Quiff and Boot. In late 2009, they were nominated for two BAFTA Children’s Awards for their work with the Tate. In 2011, they won a BAFTA for their work with BBC Learning.
Lynn Tuckshop
Hi, i am the designer and creator of ‘Tuckshop’ Jewellery, i create a diverse range of unique jewellery and sell at shows such as thought bubble and other comic events. i have a large knowledge of the comics book industry as nearly all my friends are comic book artists, i always strive to cater my jewellery to the particular event i am attending.
Jamie Mills
Jamie Mills is an artist, illustrator and bookmaker currently based in York. Making work about nature, structure and repetition he enjoys making books using high quality recycled materials with a hand-finished feel.

AE is a small, independent press that produces hand-printed (and bound) comics, zines, and prints. Our work focuses on the mystical and the mythological, and draws on the stories and characters of folklore.
Warwick Johnson Cadwell
Warwick Johnson Cadwell is a professional illustrator working in editorial illustration, concept design, storyboarding and narrative art. Over the last couple of years, his work has appeared in Birdsong, New British Comics, Solipsistic Pop, West comic anthologies and the Guardian. Warwick’s currently working on short-form comic Hunch Parsons and his highly-anticipated graphic novel Gungle for Blank Slate.
Kristyna Baczynski
Kristyna Baczynski is a comic book artist, illustrator and designer of Yorkshire tongue and Ukrainian blood. She won a Northern Design Award in 2008, since had her sequential work continually and internationally published and was the 2011 Thought Bubble Artist in Residence. She works from her studio in Leeds, UK freelancing, drawing and self-publishing comics and zines.

Luke Pearson
Luke Pearson is a cartoonist, illustrator and comic book man. He is the writer and artist of the comics Everything We Miss and Hilda and The Midnight Giant.
Simon Moreton (Smoo Comics)
Simon Moreton is a cartoonist and academic based in Bristol, UK. He writes and draws comics and zines. His regular series, Smoo, is all about everyday life.
He is one of half of Things in Panels, and also runs Better, Drawn, a blog where people can share stories about their experience of long-term mental or physical illnesses in the form of comics.
Nick Soucek (Mis Comp)
Under the project title of Misinterpreted Complications Nick authors, draws and self-publishes comics that explore the tensions, contradictions and banality of everyday life. Together with Simon Moreton (Smoo Comics) Nick has both published a newspaper-format-comic called The Sorry Entertainer, and helped to found Bear Pit Zines in Bristol (UK) – which publishes collaborative comic-zines as well as hosts an annual zine fair. Nick is also a regular contributor to Boneshaker Magazine.
Joe List
Joe List is a comic book artist and writer from the north of England. He has published a number of comic books, most recently, Skimpy Jim.
He has provided guest comics for John Allison’s Scary Go Round, Phillipa Rice’s My Cardboard Life, Jim Medway’s Comical Animal and Adam Cadwell’s The Everyday. His comic strips have been included in the forthcoming issue of Solipsistic Pop and a couple of editions of the newspaper anthology Paper Science.
Aside from printed work, he also maintains the webcomic, Freak Leap, and weekly doodle blog, The Annotated Weekender.
Laura Watton-Davies
Laura Watton-Davies (aka Pinkapplejam) has been making her own comics since the mid 90s and is influenced by cartoons, zombies, Japanese fashion plus everything cute. She is a UK artist and founding member of Sweatdrop Studios. A group member from its inception until 2010, she now creates works via Pinkapplejam.com. Born in the West Midlands and now living in Cambridge, Laura is a freelance illustrator.
She self-publishes her series Biomecha, which was shortlisted for the 2007 Eagle Awards. She has also produced a number of anthology works for the Sweatdrop books ‘Sugardrops’, ‘Stardust’, ‘Blue is for Boys’ and “Drop Dead Monstrous”.
In 2006, Laura was one of the winners of the ‘Neo’ magazine manga competition, with her short comic, ‘Sea Bream Dream’. She also achieved a runner-up position in the 3rd ‘Rising Stars of Manga United Kingdom and Ireland’ competition.
Philippa Rice
Philippa Rice makes a collage comic strip called My Cardboard Life, which has been updating 5 times a week online since 2008. Philippa self published a collection of these comics in April 2011. She also draws other comics, including a 40 page Science Fiction Romance comic called Looking Out, which will be published in November by Hic & Hoc.
Sandra Dieckmann
The best folktales have a dark edge. Sandra Dieckmann lives and works as a Freelance illustrator and artist from her studio in East London, UK. Her skills have been applied to a wide array of international commissions and projects.

Harriet Alana
Skateboarding and drawing are simply compulsions for the recent Camberwell graduate… which, naturally, led on to zines! Now in it’s forth issue, London based Brash is packed to rafters on skate and creative stuff from scene that surrounds her. This ‘Stockwell shred grrrl’ relishes the DIY ethos; everything from the collation of content, right through to the final print stages. Harriet Alana’s enthusiasm for silk screen, risograph printing and good ol’ fashioned photocopying is super ridiculously awesome! Come see for yourself!
Timothy Winchester
People I Know is a comic by Timothy Winchester. If you like dinosaurs getting dumped, sassy wizards or lots of weeping then this is the comic for you!
Kerry Veus & Colin Mayhew
Mild Peril Media started as the joint website of illustrator Colin Mayhew and graphic designer Kerry Venus, and has developed into them working collaboratively as a collective.
Weʼre both heavily inspired by film and literature and references to these can often be found in our work, we love animation and how versatile it can be. We also take inspiration from music and photography; aerial photos of cities in particular are always inspiring.
We self publish our own zines and comics and have previously exhibited at comic festivals such as Kapow in london and Thought Bubble in Leeds.
Sally Jane Thompson
Sally is a Midlands-based freelance comic artist and illustrator. Alongside work for comics, magazines, books and education, she creates quiet, gentle minicomics focussing on the small moments of everyday life, often with a magic realist twist. As objects, her books favour small formats, recycled papers and a strong design aesthetic, creating objects which are lovely to hold as well as read.
David O’Connell
David O’Connell is the editor of ink+PAPER a chunky, full-colour, biannual comic magazine full of stories, articles and features about creative people. He is also a comic maker, author and illustrator. He is the creator of Tozo, a ligne claire-style adventure comic and Queen Mum Adventures, a comic series about Britain’s Favourite Dead Grandmother.
Pippa Stewart & Josh Neal
We are two illustrators who work in making small publications and zines. We both studied at Plymouth University but originally come from Worcestershire- Redditch and Worcester. Since leaving University we have continued with our illustration creating new zines alongside receiving work. We create books and zines either by screen print, printer or by hand. Each piece of work varies in size and quantity but all are produced to our high standards.
Inspired Comics and What’s The Time Mrs Woolf
Inspired Comics is a collective of hobbyists and professionals and has published seven anthologies. What’s The Time Mrs. Woolf? is a bimonthly feminist women’s zine created by some of Inspired’s members. It’s important to the group to provide a platform to create individual work, so we also sell comics by our individual creators. Between the anthologies, zines and individual projects we usually have around 20 books available. We usually try to keep our work accessible and appropriate for younger teens and up.

Isabel Greenberg is a London based illustrator and comic-person. She is currently working on her first graphic novel due to be published in 2013 by Jonathan Cape.

Marc Ellerby is the creator of comics such as Chloe Noonan: Monster Hunter and Ellerbisms. He has had work published by “proper publishers” but still prefers the doing it himself.
Jane McGuinness
Jane McGuinness is a Scottish illustrator living in Birmingham. She enjoys creating artwork with an emotional and mysterious direction, and likes to make books by hand. Frequent points of inspiration are words, songs and folk tales, the past, animals and nature.
